In addition to my posts about Mira hair oil, I also like to write about a variety of hair care topics. I’ve already written an article on how to make homemade hair gel, so I wanted to follow up with a few more articles about homemade hair care products. Here’s my latest… how to make homemade hair spray!

(c) Can Stock Photo

There are a lot of reasons why you might find yourself increasingly interested in natural hair care alternatives. The products we have been using all this time, we are now learning are not only fairly toxic to the environment, but also to our health. The chemicals and preservatives typically found in hairspray, for example, can dry out and damage hair as well as causing irritation to the skin. In extreme cases people have experienced respiratory issues related to the regular use of hairspray.

So what is the alternative? You may have already discovered that’s it can be difficult to find a commercially produced natural hairspray, especially one that works. Fortunately, there are a number of common ingredients you can use to make your own natural hairspray at home, and these recipes can be tailored to make a solution specifically suited to your unique hair type and style. Here are a couple of all-natural hairspray solutions you might try:

Homemade Citrus Hairspray

The base ingredient for this homemade hairspray recipe is a single lemon. Those with overly dry hair should substitute an orange in place of the lemon, but the remainder of the recipe is the same.

Start by cutting a lemon (or orange) into very thin slices or small chunks and place in a pot.

Add two cups of water to the pot and bring the mixture to a boil.

Simmer until liquid is reduced by approximately half.

Strain to remove fruit pieces and allow the liquid to cool completely.

When the liquid has cooled, funnel it into a spray bottle, and that’s it! This is a light hold homemade hairspray. It is best stored in the refrigerator, but can be kept at room temperature (in the bathroom) for a week or two without spoiling. To extend the shelf life of homemade citrus hairspray, you may consider adding a little bit of rubbing alcohol as a preservative, but it’s better for your hair to use it as-is.

Homemade Sugar Hairspray

This is probably the simplest form of homemade hairspray, and it’s also the most adjustable as far as “hold” is concerned. In addition, homemade sugar hairspray can easily be scented to your liking. Start with a small quantity, as this will make it easier to fine tune the ratio of sugar to water for your preferences.

Bring ½ cup of water to a boil.

Add a couple of teaspoons of sugar.

Cool completely and funnel into spray bottle.

After you have had the opportunity to use your homemade sugar hairspray, you can determine whether you need more hold or less. For stronger hold, add more sugar to your mixture; for less, add more water. This natural hairspray can be enhanced by adding a couple of drops of your favorite scented oil. Moisturizers, such as aloe, can also be added to the mix for a truly hair-friendly homemade hairspray.

Both of these homemade hairsprays add shine and luster to hair. Because the ingredients used are 100% natural, there is no need to worry about residue damaging and weighing down hair, either. You can eliminate the dangers associated with the harsh chemicals used in commercial hair products by making your own, all-natural, homemade hairspray with ingredients found in your very own kitchen!

Today’s Mira hair oil review comes from Chelsey, a Canadian who has been struggling greatly with her hair over the last several years. She has been kind enough to provide detailed information about her hair history and weekly journal updates over the last two months. I hope you take the time to read her story and learn about how Mira hair oil has helped her!

Chelsey’s hair history

Growing up my mom had always styled my hair short and it hadn’t started to matter to me until around grade 7. After a while my mom had stopped booking hair appointments and let my hair grow until the summer after grade nine. At that point my hair was past my chest area and I loved it, I had finally gotten the length I wanted! Until one day that summer my mom insisted on getting my hair cut at the salon. I was young and couldn’t say no and instead of cutting off an inch, the hair stylist cut off 4 inches. I was devastated and the change was so drastic my emotions could hardly handle it. I was 15 at the time and it was the beginning of my “hair nightmare”.

Chelsey Before Mira Hair Oil

Everyday since then I had resorted to straightening, teasing, and extensions. Just about anything to be comfortable with myself again, but only to realize that I was starting to make myself go out of control but I couldn’t stop. With all the pressure of looking your best at all costs in High School, trying to keep up with everyone else, at the time all of that was needed to get through my day to day life. It started getting to the point where my ends and hair would fall out at the stroke of my brush or the touch of my fingers but I was so far gone it never bothered me but my family. My parents were constantly on my back about “you have to stop” and “everyone is laughing about you behind your back”. I heard all about it but I never believed them.

All of my intense teasing, washing my hair everyday, straightening my hair to the point where my hair would sizzle and stink had ended on my grad trip when I met my boyfriend Corey. He opened my eyes to that I was beautiful without all of that stuff and that I needed to fix it. I stopped doing too much and came to terms with doing toning it down as much as I could manage.

Now I am left with breakage, my hair all around my hair is at all different lengths. It’s dead, thin and lifeless. I had gone through countless products to try to achieve healthy, long hair. Although I do still wear my extensions occasionally but only when I am going out or when I’m visiting my boyfriend at his family’s house as we are currently doing long distance. I have managed to create an illusion with hairspray and extensions but I am sick of having to make sure no one sees me in the morning or before I do my hair after my shower. I want to wake up next to my boyfriend with hair that’s soft, not hair that’s dry and sticks out in every direction. Sometimes I don’t even know how he can look at me in the morning. And most of all I know he wants to be able to run his fingers through my hair without feeling a clip or touching dry brittle hair.

Thanks to finding this site and reading reviews, I now have high hopes, I have found Mira and I know it will change my life forever.

Chelsey’s Mira Hair Oil Journal

Week 1: My hair is definitely more manageable than it was a week ago! It’s starting to look softer and not as dead. Also, a piece on the side of my head to the front of my face doesn’t stick out anymore. I’m getting really excited!

Week 2: My hair is definitely stronger now. Before whenever I brushed my hair I would see pieces of it all over the floor and now there’s only the odd one or two. Also, I’ve noticed that my hair has gotten to be so manageable I don’t have to wash it every day. In the morning all I have to do is brush my hair and it’s still perfectly straight, not sticking out everywhere and dry.

Week 3: This week I’ve gotten a couple compliments on my hair. My friends who came home for their break said it looks shinier and healthier! It was very encouraging to hear that. Also, I noticed that I’ve actually gotten some of my natural curl back. I had lost that over the years because of the damage I was doing to my hair.

Now I just can’t wait to see the growth. It would be nice to get a couple inches.

Week 4: This week I’ve been staying over at my boyfriends’ parents house and it has been so much easier to show myself in the morning! My hair is now soft and wavy when I wake up instead of dry and tangled all over my head. It used to be so embarrassing trying to hide myself between my room and the bathroom! The ends of my hair are now healthy looking rather than dry split ends and the top of my head you can see how my roots are becoming softer

Week 5: This week I’ve begun to notice some volume in my hair that I didn’t have before. Occasionally I’ll tease it to give it a little more style to it but now I don’t find I have to.

Week 6: I’m actually starting to notice some growth in my hair now! Maybe now my hair will finally start to grow out. Also, now after I wash my hair and let it air dry my hair is as soft as it would be done at a salon! It’s really nice since my hair has been so dry and brittle for so long.

Week 7: No update (on vacation)

Week 8: My hair has come so far over the past two months. It’s completely changed from being dry, damaged hair to soft and wavy hair that only dreamed of having. It’s much more manageable and I’m comfortable with not wearing my extensions all the time which is a big step. My hair has maybe grown about half an inch, more than what it ever would over two months without Mira! I plan to keep using Mira until my hair is at the length I need it to be so I’m trying to be positive. I truly love Mira and can’t imagine not having it at this point in my life, it’s a miracle worker.

Here’s Chelsey’s before-and-after photo. Notice how much healthier her hair looks and how much the ends have evened out! Before, her ends were completely different lengths, but not after using Mira hair oil.

Even though Mira hair oil costs $79.99 per 4oz bottle (free shipping), it’s not that far out of line of similar products. Let’s compare it to some of the other products on the market (and keep in mind that the prices below do not include shipping, unlike Mira hair oil which comes with free shipping anywhere in the world):

Moroccan Oil costs $40 for a 3.4oz bottle that lasts about six months — but Moroccan Oil is used as a styling product, not as a treatment, so the amount that you use is only a fraction of the amount that you use with Mira hair oil. Not only that, but Moroccan Oil contains chemicals! When you’re trying to permanently restore your hair, you need to steer clear of chemicals.

Josie Maran Organic Argan Oil costs $96 for a 4oz bottle that lasts about two months if used in your hair. (The product can also be used on your skin.) Unlike Moroccan Oil, this oil is 100% natural.

Ojon Restorative Hair Treatment costs $33 for a 3.1oz tub that lasts about six months if used as a daily leave-in treatment. Although it contains mostly natural ingredients, there are a few questionable ones such as hydrogenated lecithin and benzyl benzoate. This is obviously cheaper than Mira hair oil, and it has quite a few good reviews on Sephora.com. The only downside is it may have to be used consistently to continue the results (much like a deep conditioner).

As you can see, there are other restorative hair products out there that are similar in price to Mira hair oil. I know that before I started using Mira hair oil, I was used to buying the cheapest, probably most chemical-laden hair products and couldn’t fathom the thought of spending a lot of money on hair treatments. (Funny, I had no problem destroying my hair with expensive hair color!) However, my mindset quickly changed when I saw the results.

If you’re on the fence about buying Mira hair oil because of the price, take a few minutes to look over your typical expenses to see if there is something you can cut down on for a month or two to make up for it. What about eating out one less day a week, skipping your morning Starbucks coffee, postponing purchasing a new shirt, or have happy hour at home with friends rather than at a bar? All of these things can be easily done and you’ll end up with beautiful hair to thank you!

This time I’m going to tell you a bit about another herbal ingredient: Bacopa Monnieri.

Bacopa Monnieri (photo credit: Forest & Kim Starr)

Bacopa Monnieri is a bitter tasting herb that thrives in watery fields, such as marshes and wetlands. It can be found in such countries as China, Nepal, India, and Sri Lanka, as well as in Florida and Hawaii.

Bacopa Monnieri is also known by the name “Brahmi” and is an herb that has traditionally been used in Ayurvedic medicine in India for thousands of years. In India, where it grows naturally, it was considered “brain food” and was used primarily to improve memory and boost mental alertness. However, over the years it was discovered to be useful for a range of other conditions such as hair loss, certain skin conditions, and illnesses such as asthma and rheumatism.

It is known to be a very effective scalp treatment, and we all know that healthy hair begins with healthy scalp! It is available in powder or oil formulations that can be used on the scalp to treat conditions such dry, itchy scalp, flaky skin, and dandruff. It moisturizes the scalp and revitalizes it from within so that the hair grows from healthier roots.

When used on the scalp it has been shown to be beneficial for hair thinning and hair loss by promoting the overall health of your hair. As it works on the scalp, Bacopa Monnieri strengthens the roots of the hair. Stronger hair roots help to significantly reduce the occurrence of hair loss.

The oil form of Bacopa Monnieri, which is what is in Mira hair oil, is preferred over the powder because it can then be massaged into the scalp and roots of the hair. The oil nourishes the hair roots and stimulates the hair follicles. Massaging the scalp will improve blood circulation and also promote the growth of your hair. This process will leave your hair looking thicker, longer, and shinier.

In addition to encouraging hair growth, when used on the hair and scalp, Bacopa Monnieri can also help with the treatment of split ends. Left unchecked, split ends can travel up the hair and lead to serious damage. However, continued use of a Bacopa Monnieri treatment will repair split ends and help to protect your hair from further damage as it coats the hair follicle.

As you can see, Bacopa Monnieri is a key component to restoring your hair. The addition of it to Mira hair oil is part of what helps Mira hair oil be such a hair restoration powerhouse!

Most people think of vinegar as a salad dressing ingredient or as a clothing stain remover, but did you know that it can also make your hair shinier?

I’m always on the hunt for natural ways to boost my hair’s vitality in addition to Mira hair oil, so I was really excited when I found out about how apple cider vinegar can help your hair. For those who don’t know, apple cider is known commonly as one of the best health foods. The main ingredient is (you guessed it!) apple cider, which is an acetic acid that will remove all of the build-up and gunk in your hair from low-quality hair products. Secondly, it will also balance the pH levels of your hair, providing relief for those who have dandruff or psoriasis.

How to Use Apple Cider Vinegar on Your Hair

The first thing that you need to do is create the mixture. Take a one-third cup of apple cider vinegar and mix it with a glass of distilled water. Fill the mixture in a plastic bottle and take it in the shower. After wetting your hair properly, apply the apple cider vinegar mixture and properly rinse your hair. Let the apple cider be in your hair for at least thirty seconds, and then wash your hair thoroughly with cold water, which will help create a seal over the hair shaft and provide more shine.

One important thing that you should know is that apple cider vinegar is acidic, which means that using it on a daily basis is not advisable. Try rinsing your hair with apple cider vinegar three times a week at most, which will give you the best results without drying your hair out. Make sure to dry your hair quickly after you use it. I noticed that if I left my hair wet, it seemed to smell a bit like the vinegar as it dried.

If you want, you can also create a herbal apple cider rinse for your hair by mixing other herbal items such as rosemary, rose essential oil, some drops of lavender and lemon in to the mixture as well. Feel free to experiment!

What Apple Cider Vinegar Should You Buy?

Not all apple cider vinegar is created equal! For maximum results, you need to purchase raw, organic apple cider vinegar. I highly recommend Bragg’s Organic Apple Cider Vinegar, which you can purchase online or at a local health food store.

Every day I receive several emails from wonderful women across the globe asking me the question, “Where can I buy Mira hair oil?”

The answer to “Where can I buy Mira hair oil?” is… you can buy it right here!

Mira hair oil is only produced in limited quantities to preserve the high-quality nature of the oil, so there is only one supplier I recommend because I know they provide fresh, effective Mira hair oil! The product is shipped from Canada, so you’ll need to give it a few weeks to receive your package. (I know, waiting is frustrating, but I promise it’s worth it.)

I also want to quickly address a few other questions I frequently receive:

Do I Have to Use Mira Hair Oil Forever?

You don’t have to use it forever; you just need to use it as long as you need until you get your hair to its desired condition.

Personally, I have been in maintenance mode for a while now. Because I still color my hair, which inevitably leads to additional damage, I haven’t stopped using the oil completely. I use still use a full application of the oil once a week and also use it in my conditioner and as a styling product. I will likely discontinue use of it as a styling product when spring and summer are here so it doesn’t weigh my hair down.

Can I Use Mira Hair Oil on Colored or Highlighted Hair?

Yes, it is all natural and will not cause any color stripping. I color and highlight my hair all of the time and saw no negative impact on the color.

What Do Other People Think About Mira Hair Oil?

I have posted some Mira hair oil reviews on my site for you to check out. If you want to share your review, please Contact me!

Where Can I Buy Mira Hair Oil in Stores?

Because it’s manufactured in such small quantities to keep the quality of the oil high, it’s not available in stores.

Can I Buy It in My Country?

As long as you can order with a credit card (Visa, Mastercard, American Express, or Discover) or an e-check, you can order it online.

I hope that clears up the answer to your question “Where can I buy Mira hair oil?”! Thanks for visiting.

Mira hair oil contains a variety of herbal ingredients that work together to create a product that nourishes your hair and encourages hair growth. My naturopath has agreed to share a series of articles with me about some of Mira hair oil’s herbal ingredients. Let’s start with Eclipta alba and see what it does to help with hair growth.

Eclipta Alba

If you are seeking a natural remedy for the problem of hair loss, then one of the most effective herbal treatments is Eclipta alba. Because of the beneficial impact it has on both the hair and skin, Eclipta alba is considered a beauty herb. The herb is found in the tropical and subtropical regions of the world, and is indigenous to Thailand, India, China, and Brazil.

Eclipta alba (photo credit: Nithin1600)

Eclipta alba is also commonly referred to as False Daisy, and Bhringraj. It is a creeping herb that has small penny-sized flowers. There are 3 varieties which bloom flowers that are white, yellow, or blue in color, but the white variety is the one that is most commonly used. The herb has a very strong, bitter taste. It is available as a paste, oil, or dried preparation.

Eclipta alba can be taken internally and externally, and is included in cosmetic compositions which are used to treat chronic skin diseases such as dermatitis and eczema. It is also used in treating liver disorders, such as cirrhosis of the liver and jaundice. In addition, it has been successful in restoring prematurely greying hair to its natural color. However, the herb is perhaps best known for its ability to combat hair loss, and encourage hair growth.

Eclipta Alba and Hair Growth and Restoration

The clinical studies that have been conducted on Eclipta alba all point to the positive impact that the herb has on hair growth. In Ayurvedic medicine it is considered one of the best treatments for hair loss. For this purpose, it is generally available in the form of hair oil. The oil is made from extracts of the Eclipta alba, particularly the leaves, stem, and roots.

As a treatment for hair loss, Eclipta alba oil is applied directly to the scalp. When applied regularly, the herb gives much needed support to the hair during the natural hair growth cycle. It is the herb’s ability to activate hair follicles, which helps hair to grow at a faster rate.

Eclipta alba is also able to restore hair greying hair to its natural color. This preparation is made with the leaves of the herb. The leaves are boiled and the liquid produced is mixed with coconut oil or sesame oil. This restorative mixture is applied to the hair, and results in the hair being brought back to its normal color.

Other benefits of Eclipta alba:

The oil works to revitalize the skin and improve complexion.

The juice from the leaves are used to treat rheumatic joint pain, edema, and fevers,

It rejuvenates the body and has very good anti-aging properties.

It has anti-inflammatory properties, which makes it very effective in the treatment of disorders such as an enlarged liver.

Using Eclipta alba can also restore the natural shine and luster to your hair, promote hair growth and reverse hair loss. It is a rejuvenator as well as a tonic, and has excellent medicinal qualities which make it suitable for the remedy of a wide range of disorders relating to the hair, eyes, and skin.

I frequently get emails from people who want to know what else they can do alongside mira hair oil to make it work effectively as possible. I always tell them that they need to reduce the amount of chemicals they put on their hair and eat healthy foods. No one’s perfect, but simply using an all-natural hair gel, installing a shower water filter, or supplementing with fish oil can really boost the results you see.

Think of it like this: If your car runs over a nail, gets a flat tire, and you patch up the hole (Mira hair oil) — would you then take it out for a drive on a street full of nails (chemical-laden hair care products and bad nutrition)? Of course not! You’d take extra care of your tire because you know it’s important, much like your hair.

That being said, I want to share with you today a recipe for an all-natural hair care gel that you can make at home using only a few ingredients. The star of the show is flax seed (sometimes called linseed), a nutritious seed that is often used in healthy recipes. The thing that’s unique about flax seed is its ability to become gelatinous when it sits in water, which makes it perfect for hair gel. You can pick it up at a health food store, in the health food section of your local grocery store, or online for $2 to $4 a pound.

The recipe is simple — you’ll take flax seeds, bring them to a boil, and then strain the resulting gel-like substance into a jar using a pair of panty hose (the easiest method) or cheesecloth. You can then add some of your favorite essential oils to the gel, like peppermint, grapefruit, orange, or rosemary to give it a great scent.

All-Natural Hair Gel Recipe

You’ll need:

1 tablespoon of flax seeds

1 cup of water

cheap panty hose or cheesecloth (to strain the gel)

glass jar/bottle (for storage)

essential oils (optional; can be used to add a great scent)

Bring the water and flax seed to a boil over medium-high heat.

After the mixture comes to a boil, reduce the heat to low and simmer for five to ten minutes, stirring constantly, until the mixture turns into a gel-like consistency.

Line your jar/bottle with the panty hose (or cheesecloth). After you allow the gel to cool for a few minutes, strain the gel into your container. Use tongs to squeeze the last of the gel out.

Add in essential oils per your preference.

That’s it! Enjoy your new hair gel. Store it in the refrigerator for maximum shelf life.
